SteelCaller Estimate · Voice-Driven Takeoff

Bid faster.
Talk, don't type.

A voice-driven estimating app for steel shops. Pair your phone as a mic and dictate pieces — section headings, quantities, shapes, and lengths parse automatically into a working takeoff. Or import a KISS/BOM file from SDS/2 for jobs with 3D models. Buyout, cost recap, and scope letter all auto-assemble.

Steel shop estimators, not software people.

SteelCaller Estimate is built for the people who actually bid the work — the estimator at a small-to-mid shop who needs to turn drawings into a number, fast.

Solo estimators
You bid your own work. You want to get off Excel forever but can't justify a $20k enterprise takeoff subscription.
  • No seat fees, no consultants to set it up
  • Voice lets you bid while looking at drawings
  • Scope letter and Excel export in one click
Small estimating teams
Two or three estimators at a shop under 50 employees. You share a Dropbox folder of Excel templates and everyone does it slightly differently.
  • Single pricing catalog everyone works from
  • Per-company standard exclusions and qualifications
  • Every bid uses the same letter format

Three ways in. One working bid out.

Pick whichever matches how you bid this project. You can mix them — voice some pieces, import others, edit manually.

1
Voice takeoff
Pair your phone as a mic via QR code — no app install. Dictate "Columns, fourteen W ten by sixty-eight, twenty feet six" and the app parses the section heading, quantity, shape, and length automatically.
2
KISS/BOM import
Already have a 3D model? Upload the KISS or BOM export from SDS/2 and your takeoff builds itself — pieces, connections, bolts, nuts, anchor rods, deck — all sorted into the correct sections.
3
Manual entry
Old school. Click Add Section, then Add Row, then click any description cell to search the 1,229-part catalog — W, HSS, L, C, MC, plate, bolts, nuts, anchors. Unit weights auto-fill.

Everything you need to price a job.

One plan. Every feature. No seat fees, no upsells, no "contact sales for pricing on this module."

1,229-part catalog
Full W, HSS, L, C, MC sections plus plate, rebar, channels, bolts, nuts, anchors. Unit weights and unit type auto-fill on selection.
Buyout with pre-priced catalog
63 pre-priced stair/rail/ladder items — Risers, Landings, Handrails (2-line through 8-line), Pickett Rails, Wallrails, Ladders, Cage Ladders, Returns.
Live cost recap
Material (steel/tube/pipe/other/fasteners), labor at your hours-per-ton, profit markup. Bid price rounds to the nearest $100. Every line traces to a takeoff or buyout row.
Auto-assembled scope letter
Three-page PDF with your letterhead, logo, and bid summary. Includes, excludes, and qualifications auto-populate from your takeoff sections and standard lists.
Bid ↔ Scope view toggle
Hide every dollar amount before screen-sharing with the GC or client. One click flips the whole app to scope-safe, one click flips back.
Excel + PDF exports
.xlsx for takeoff and buyout. PDF for scope letter and internal cost recap. Downloads in seconds — hand off to the shop or your accountant.
Standard exclusions & qualifications
Set up your shop's standard list once in Settings. Every new bid auto-includes them. Still opt out per-project if a specific job needs different terms.
Furnished-only tagging
Mark sections as FO to exclude them from fab labor while still pricing material. The cost recap breaks out what you're fabricating vs. just supplying.
Every future update included
New features, catalog updates, improvements — every subscriber gets them immediately. No paid tiers, no premium modules behind a paywall.

One plan. Everything included.

Questions we actually get.

A laptop or desktop with a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge), and a smartphone if you want to use voice takeoff. No app install on the phone — you just scan a QR code in the browser to pair.
Your phone becomes a hands-free microphone after you scan a QR. As you talk, the takeoff rows appear live on your laptop screen. Say "Columns, section heading" to start a section, then "Fourteen W ten by sixty-eight, twenty feet six inches" and the app creates a row with qty 14, description W10X68, length 20'-6".
The .kss (KISS) export from SDS/2. The parser recognizes every piece mark, reads shape and length from the piece, and routes bolts, nuts, anchor rods, and deck to the correct sections in your takeoff and buyout.
Yes. Default rates live in Settings — per-pound costs for steel, pipe, tube, and other material, plus labor rate, hours per ton, galvanizing, paint, fastener prices, and profit markup percentage. Every new job starts with your defaults; you can override per-job from the Cost Recap.
Your jobs, takeoffs, buyouts, scope letters, and cost recaps stay exportable to Excel and PDF for 30 days after cancellation. Export anything you need to keep. After 30 days, data may be permanently removed.
No — two different products, same brand. The Field App is for erectors and fabricators managing a project in the field (piece mark lookup, shop drawings, revision alerts). Estimate is for office estimators bidding jobs before they're awarded. You can subscribe to one or both. See the Field App →
